چکیده

Abstract Introduction Patients with either Idiopathic Hypersomnia or Narcolepsy demonstrate excessive daytime somnolence (EDS) resultant inattention mimicking Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). ADHD also often express sleep problems including EDS. Thus, patients and idiopathic hypersomnia narcolepsy may share drowsiness as common features. However, it is not known whether EDS have increased movement (hyperactivity) like patients, the determination of which purpose this study. Methods We studied 12 (7 type 2 5 Hypersomnia) shown by Multiple Sleep Latency Test served gold standard for entry into Twelve subjects without symptoms control group. None participants had a previous history ADHD. Each participant underwent one-hour session laying at 45 degrees surveys about need to move actigraphy an objective measure movement. Results Sleep-disordered reported more hyperactivity on Self-Report Scale. At each time points clear trend than controls Suggested Immobilization (SIT). For total 60 min, large effect size during SIT test was found between (Cohen’s d = 0.61, p 0.01). did combat controls, nor show any difference in SIT. Conclusion controls. verified measurement, hypothesis be further tested, model inattentive form rather combined inattentive/hyperactive Further studies are needed explore relationship hyperactivity.

IgG Abnormality in Narcolepsy and Idiopathic Hypersomnia

BACKGROUND A close association between narcolepsy and the Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA)-DQB1*0602 allele suggests the involvement of the immune system, or possibly an autoimmune process. We investigated serum IgG levels in narcolepsy. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS We measured the serum total IgG levels in 159 Japanese narcolepsy-cataplexy patients positive for the HLA-DQB1*0602 allele, 28 id...

Successful treatment of idiopathic hypersomnia and narcolepsy with modafinil.

1. Modafinil, a putative central alpha 1 adrenergic agonist, was tested in idiopathic hypersomnia and narcolepsy. 2. Sleep attacks and drowsiness were significantly decreased in 83% of 18 hypersomniac subjects and 71% of 24 narcoleptics. 3. When cataplectic episodes were not totally suppressed the association of a low dose of Clomipramine was successful in improving them. 4. Modafinil, used for...

Manual Characterization of Sleep Spindle Index in Patients with Narcolepsy and Idiopathic Hypersomnia

This is a retrospective review of PSG data from 8 narcolepsy patients and 8 idiopathic hypersomnia (IH) patients, evaluating electrophysiologic differences between these two central hypersomnias. Spindles were identified according to the AASM Manual for the Scoring of Sleep and Associated Events; and counted per epoch in the first 50 epochs of N2 sleep and the last 50 epochs of N2 sleep in each...

Causes of Hypersomnia – Narcolepsy

Volitional sleep deprivation and obstructive sleep apnea are the most common causes of hypersomnia. The remaining causes are primarily due to p r imary cen t r a l ne rvous sys t em abnormalities, the most common of which is narcolepsy, a primary disorder of the neural control of wakefulness and sleep.

CSF hypocretin-1 (orexin-A) concentrations in narcolepsy with and without cataplexy and idiopathic hypersomnia.

We measured cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) hypocretin-1 levels in 11 patients with narcolepsy-cataplexy, five with narcolepsy without cataplexy and 12 with idiopathic hypersomnia (IHS). All patients were Japanese. As reported in Caucasian patients, undetectable or very low hypocretin-1 levels were observed in most (9 out of 11) Japanese narcolepsy--cataplexy patients. Our hypocretin-deficient narcol...
